What is CPE/Garderie subventionnée?
Services de garde éducatifs subventionnés (CPE and subsidised daycares) is Quebec's childcare assistance program. It helps eligible families pay for licensed childcare so parents can work, attend school, or participate in job training. The program is run by Ministère de la Famille (Quebec) (Ministère de la Famille).
Who qualifies?
Families must have income at or below undefined% of the undefined, have a child under age 4, and have an active work, school, or training schedule.
How much will I pay out of pocket?
The base daily contribution at CPEs and subsidised daycares is $10.35/day (2025). For higher-income families, modulated fees apply based on net family income. Private non-subsidised daycares (garderies non subventionnées) charge market rates and do not receive provincial subsidies directly.
How do I apply?
Apply through La Place 0-5. You can apply online. You'll need identity, residency, income, and child documents. Processing takes Varies — La Place 0-5 waitlist system (can be 1–3 years in Montreal).
Is there a waitlist?
Yes. Subsidised spaces are highly sought after, especially in Montreal. Register on La Place 0-5 as early as possible — you can register before your child is born. Priority is given based on registration date and family need. Apply as early as possible.
Can I use a relative as my childcare provider?
Recognised subsidised home childcare (milieu familial reconnu) allows approved providers — sometimes relatives — to care for up to 6 children in their home. They must be recognised by a coordinating office (bureau coordonnateur) and do not live in the child's household.
How often do I need to renew?
Your CPE/Garderie subventionnée authorization must be renewed every 12 months. Ministère de la Famille will notify you before your renewal date — respond promptly to avoid a gap in coverage.
What if I'm denied?
