What is Manitoba Child Care Subsidy?

Manitoba Child Care Subsidy (CWELCC) / Affordable Child Care Program is Manitoba's childcare assistance program. It helps eligible families pay for licensed childcare so parents can work, attend school, or participate in job training. The program is run by Manitoba Department of Families (Manitoba Families).

Who qualifies?

Families must have income at or below undefined% of the undefined, have a child under age 12, and have an active work, school, or training schedule.

How much will I pay out of pocket?

The provincial subsidy covers a portion of childcare fees based on income. Some families may pay $0 after subsidies. Families above thresholds pay the full provider fee or a co-payment.

How do I apply?

Apply through Manitoba Child Care Subsidy Application. You can apply online, in_person, phone. You'll need identity, residency, income, and child documents. Processing takes 2–4 weeks.

Is there a waitlist?

Yes. Winnipeg and other urban centres have waitlists for licensed spaces. Start looking 6–12 months before your need date. Some centres use their own internal waitlist systems. Apply as early as possible.

Can I use a relative as my childcare provider?

Licensed family childcare in Manitoba can include relatives if they are licensed as family day home operators and care for children outside the child's household.

How often do I need to renew?

Your Manitoba Child Care Subsidy authorization must be renewed every 12 months. Manitoba Families will notify you before your renewal date — respond promptly to avoid a gap in coverage.
